Integrating external data sources

This functions allows a data source and its corresponding tables and fields to be displayed in the Management Console.

This data source is integrated using ADO/OLE DB. OLE DB also allows you to establish a connection with earlier ODBC providers.

An external data source can be saved in any folder. It is important that the Windows user of the Application Server has the corresponding rights to this folder and the respective file.

The field names in the external data source must comply with the naming conventions for the corresponding fields in the databases. Special characters cannot be contained in the field name.

If you change the names of the fields in the external data source, you must newly embed the data source. Additionally, you must adopt the output for users.

If you deploy CAS genesisWorld, users can display the data of an external data source in a list in the dashboard.

If you deploy teamWorks, you can go to the Portals area and create a new List or Extended list component.

Select the Database area.

Click Integrate external data source. The corresponding window opens.

You can select from data sources, such as Microsoft Access, Excel, Oracle, and others.

Click the Help for information about the OLE DB providers.

Depending on the data type you have selected, you may see other fields in this window.

The external data source will be shown in the left-hand tree of the Database area.

The following button is now available:

Adjust external data source will open the same window as when integrating the data source, allowing you to change the settings.

This button is only available after you have integrated an external data source.
