International calls /Cutting numbers for an outside line

Cut number for outside line in the Telephony tab of the Settings window is a setting that enables CAS genesisWorld to identify the number of an international call.

Depending on the settings of the telephony system and the Windows Tapi settings, an international number can have varying combinations in CAS genesisWorld: 0043 ..., 00043 ... or 043 ... CAS genesisWorld is expecting 0043 ... and searches for this number in order to match it to a CAS genesisWorld address.

With the Cut number for outside line option, you can define that the first zero is cut from the 00043 number.

Information for advanced users

If the system cannot identify international calls, the telephony system does not pass the 0 as outside line number nor the country. If this happens, contact the manufacturer of your phone system or your service provider.

The CAS genesisWorld caller ID feature requires the telephone system to request or supply the outside line access code of each call. CAS genesisWorld checks the settings for the outside line access code.

The location is entered in the What country/region are you in now? field. The If you need to specify a carrier code, what is it? and If you dial a number to access an outside line, what is it? fields usually contain a 0.

CAS genesisWorld checks whether a zero has been entered as the access number for an outside line. If so, then CAS genesisWorld expects the TAPI service provider to pass a leading zero for incoming calls.

Example: A 0 is entered for inland calls

The phone system receives a call from the number 0721-9638-0. The number for an outside line has been activated for the phone system. The phone system or its Windows provider then passes the number 0072196380 to CAS genesisWorld.

CAS genesisWorld recognizes the outside line number from the If you dial a number for an outside line, what is it? setting (= 0) in Windows and removes the first zero. Since there is only one zero left, the call is recognized as a call from abroad.

CAS genesisWorld searches for 072196380 or 004972196380 depending how the phone number has been saved. The prefix 0049 is added from the What country/region are you in now? setting in Windows.

Result: The system finds CAS Software's number.

Example: A 0 is entered for calls from abroad

The phone system receives a call from the number 0043-0151444-0. The phone system passes 0004301514440 to CAS genesisWorld. CAS genesisWorld recognizes the outside line number from the If you dial a number for an outside line, what is it? setting (= 0) in Windows and removes the first zero. The two remaining zeros tell the system that the call is from abroad.

As in the previous example, the system then searches for 004301514440 or 0049004301514440.

Result: The system finds the number of the Vienna State Opera house.

If the phone system does not pass a number for an outside line, but the number for an outside line in Windows has been set to 0, then the system does not recognize it as a call from abroad. This is because the system checks the setting in Windows (= 0) and removes the leading zero.

Solution 1

If the telephone system does not does not request a number for an outside line, you should change the outside line setting in Windows. International phone calls are then recognized because CAS genesisWorld does not cut the leading zero.

Solution 2

If the phone system requests an outside line number for outgoing calls, then the phone system must also pass an outside line number. You can usually define this setting in the phone system. In this case, we recommend that you contact the manufacturer of your phone system or your service provider.
