Date and text: special considerations
If the table field column contains a date or text entry, there are a few points that should be noted.
Date
Specific input options
- If you select a date entry in the Table field column and the Filter value radio button is active and a value other than equals is entered in the Condition field, the field underneath this button will split into two: the field on the left is for the date; the one on the right for the time.
- If you double-click the input field for the date, a calendar opens. If you double-click the input field for the time, a clock opens. Alternatively you can enter a time on the entry field or select the time via the arrow alongside from a drop-down menu. By clicking Now, the current time is applied.
- If you press the F4 function key in the time input field, the calendar and clock are opened.
- If you click on the date field and then press any key, a drop-down list will open, displaying default options such as Today, Tomorrow, Last week or Next week.
This list also contains options such as Today+?/Today-? or Now+?/Now-?. The question mark stands for the time: for example, days for Today and minutes for Now.
The question mark is initially assigned with zero, i.e. the current time. To enter a time, either type it directly in the Time field or click on the icon to the right of the field. The menu closes by clicking on the area next to the menu.
Differentiating between equals/is identical with
The conditions equals and is identical with differ for the date:
- Date equals July 01, 2015: All entries with the date July 01, 2015 are found, including the entries with a time.
- Date equals July 18, 2015 : 09:00:00: All entries that match this date and this time are displayed.
- Date is identical with: Select here an entry from the drop-down list, for example, Today or Tomorrow. The input of numbers for a date is not possible. All entries with a random time are displayed.
Filter value Null/Empty
If you want to enter an empty filter value or the null filter value for defining a condition, you must use the is identical with filter criterion.
Text
If you have selected a text entry in the Table field column, please note the following:
- If you use the starts with condition and enter text in the filter value field, the program shows all data records that either equal the filter value or whose text begins with the filter value.
Example
The filter condition "Town starts with Br" displays all towns beginning with "Br" such as Brighton, Bristol, Braintree.
- If you use the is identical to condition and enter text in the filter value field, the program shows all data records that exactly match the filter value.
Example
The filter condition "Town is equal (to) Birmingham" shows all towns called "Birmingham." Data records with "Birmingham East" would not be shown in the results.
- If you use the contains condition, the sort order of words is included in the filter value. Depending on the word you put at the beginning, you receive different results.
Example
A contains filter condition for tags can have different results, depending on the entries: "finish fast" or "fast finish".
