Navigators
Navigators contain folders and views as well as displaying their structure in a tree diagram.
Navigators can be created, opened, saved, deleted, and renamed. You can also export and re-import a navigator. Thus, different users are able to exchange navigators.
Please note
You can only load a different navigator, create or edit navigators, and can access the corresponding functions if the administrator has assigned you the necessary rights.
As a user, please contact your administrator before editing public navigators with business units.
As an administrator, please inform yourself in the online help of the Management Console before editing public navigators with business units.
Rights for navigators
The following navigator rights can be set for users.
- Do not change navigator means that the user(s) must use the default navigator set by the administrator.
- Select navigator means that user(s) can select from one of the available navigators. However, they cannot modify these navigators or create their own.
- Create and edit personal navigators means that the user(s) can select one of the available navigators, and can create and edit their own.
- Create and edit pubic navigators means that the user(s) can create and edit public navigators and save existing navigators as public navigators.
Public navigators can be viewed by all CAS genesisWorld users.
Please inform your administrator if a public start navigator or an additional navigator is renamed. Additional settings are sometimes necessary in the Management Console for public navigators which have been renamed and preset navigators which are used by groups of users.
These rights apply to all navigators available in CAS genesisWorld.
Navigators changed by users with the necessary rights are only available to other users in CAS genesisWorld after CAS genesisWorld has been restarted.
What types of navigators are there?
- The Program navigator is displayed on the left pane of the program window. This navigator can contain any folders and views.
The administrator can define individual views in the program navigator or complete navigators for specific users or groups, for example, members of business units such as purchasing, sales, support, and so on. Depending on your business area, it could be that certain views are predefined for you.
When you save a public navigator with business units, you only see the views that are available to your business unit.
- The Link navigator is found in the Dossier view and the Dossier tab in the data record window. This navigator contains the Dossier item which contains the key links to this data record type and lists of linked data records of a particular data record type.
- The Document template navigator is available when creating documents and editing templates and contains document template folders and views.
Using public navigators as a basis
If you use a public navigator, you may not be able to change it. If you are allowed to create and edit own navigators, you can base your navigators on public navigators. The following procedure applies to all navigators.
- Save the opened public navigator under any name.
Once you have done this, the renamed navigator is no longer a public navigator.
- Change the navigator to suit your requirements and then save the navigator again.
Important information
- The Autostart navigator is used by default if no other navigator has been selected.
- If you delete a folder or view in a navigator voluntarily or accidentally, you delete information on how data is to be displayed. However, you do not delete data records with this action. The data records are still saved in the database.
- Navigators are usually stored in the database. This means you can still use your navigators even if you are working on another computer. You can also save a navigator as a file. It is important to mention that program navigators, link navigators, and document template navigators have different file name extensions.
Navigator functions
- Navigator functions can be accessed in any navigator via the context menu.
- You can change the order of the folders and views in the navigator using a drag-and-drag operation.
Click the light arrow next to a folder to expand the folder and display all views and/or other folders contained within. Click the dark arrow to collapse the folder again.
- When you click on a folder, the views in the folder can be seen in the display area on the right. When you click on a view, the data contained in this view can be seen in the display area on the right.
