Criteria and wildcards
The condition defines how a table field is compared with a filter value.
- Some of the conditions may not be available for some fields. In the drop-down list, CAS genesisWorld always lists the condition that gives out logical results with regard to the value of the selected field.
- A drop-down list is shown under Filter value for particular fields and conditions. This is the case, for example, for categories and all fields where you are only allowed to select certain items.
- If there are only two possible options for a field, for example, yes/no or activated/deactivated, then only two options are shown as Filter value.
Wildcard characters
- Enter text or numbers as Filter value for these conditions.
- You can also use wildcard characters.
- When you enter a string, the system always searches for results as though you have entered the wildcard character % at the end of the string.
In other words, search for Man% or Man* return the same results as a search for Man.
- You can also place a wildcard character at the beginning or in the middle of a string.
If you enter %41, the system searches for all addresses that have phone numbers containing or beginning with 41: Swiss phone numbers and German area codes that begin with 041, and so on.
greater - greater than - less - less than
With these conditions, you can enter text as well as numbers as filter value.
- The condition greater than filter value K shows all records in which the relevant field value starts with K. It does not show the field that only contains the letter K.
- To also show fields that only contain the letter K, use the condition greater or equal.
- For example, if you want to show a list of addresses from A up to and including E, enter the following filter condition:
Field = Name, Condition = less and Filter value = F
- If you enter less or equal E, then the system only shows the addresses with names up to and including D and those that only consist of the letter E. If a letter were to follow the E, then the condition for this name would not be less than or equal to E, but rather greater than E.
is equal - not equal
- If you enter the is equal condition and text or numbers as the filter value, then the system shows all data records that exactly match the filter value.
For example
: The filter condition "Town is equal (to) Birmingham" shows all towns called "Birmingham." Cities called Springfield-upon-Sea, for example, are not shown.
- The condition not equal shows all records that do not match a particular filter value.
- Please note the following when using a field with a date in a field condition.
