CAS genesisWorld Editor

The CAS genesisWorld Editor is used for entering notes, writing e-mails, editing signatures, or writing texts for the out of office wizard.

Your administrator can change the Management Console settings so that you can format the text or insert images or hyperlinks. If text formatting has been permitted, the corresponding buttons are displayed.

Editing texts directly or in a separate window

Entering text using the editor is always done in the same way, regardless of whether you are using the Notes field, or Data record types the e-mail window, or for a signature. Only the displayed buttons differ.

Edit opens the CAS genesisWorld Editor window containing all buttons for editing text as well as the Time stamp button.

Time stamp

Time stamp automatically inserts the user's name, the date and the time (Time stamp).

The Notes field can be used by multiple colleagues, for example, for tasks which involve working steps. Each data record change is marked by a time stamp. Progress and results are thus easy to reconstruct.

The button inserts a timestamp at the beginning of the note.

Zooming in or out

The zoom factor you set is saved automatically and then applies for the Windows users on the current computer.

The zoom factor then applies globally, that is, the text in the editor is always displayed with the same zoom factor you selected. When refreshing a view, the new zoom factor is used.

Editing texts

With the text edit buttons, you can, for example:

The buttons offer common editor functions and additionally the following special CAS genesisWorld functions.

Spell check

Using the Spell check button, you can turn spell checking on and off.

If the spell check has been activated, incorrect words are underlined in red. If you right-click a word underlined in red, you will see a list of suggested corrections.

If a word has been spelled correctly, but has still been underlined in red, you can add this word to the dictionary by clicking Add to dictionary. This will stop the word from being underlined in red again.

You define in the settings which language or dictionary is used.

Links

Spaces in a link are possible if you have enclosed the link in speech marks (").

Local paths are considered links even if file:// is not used as prefix.

Print

If you print the entire CAS genesisWorld data record, only the text is printed.

Copying and inserting

When copying and pasting from the clipboard, you may have to reformat the text, because other applications use different formats. For example, the formatting of external style sheets is not adopted. If you import text from a Microsoft Office product such as Microsoft Word, the formatting is also realized in HTML. This can often lead to unwanted results.

In the editor toolbar, there are 2 insert options:

Click Insert to insert content from the clipboard including formatting, images, and so on.

The end result depends on a number of different factors, for example, how complex the formatting is.

Click Insert as clear text if you only want to insert the text without any formatting, images, and so on.

Both these functions are also available in the context menu. There, you will also see which key combinations are possible for each of the respective functions.

Inserting and displaying images

Please note that it may take longer to save or open a data record if it contains large images.

Embedding pictures

Embedding a picture simply means to make the picture an integral part of the data record.

When you subsequently save the data record or, for example, send the e-mail, the picture is embedded in the data record or e-mail.

Link to a picture

Linking to a picture does not mean that the picture itself is saved, but rather that a hyperlink to the picture is saved.

You may not be able to view the picture. In this case, the hyperlink does not work when the e-mail or note is opened. This may be because the user does not have access to the computer the picture is stored on or does not have sufficient rights.

Pictures from an external source always need time to load. This process may take some time.

Changing the way pictures are displayed

Alternatively, you can enter percent values: The percent symbol has to be entered without a space directly after the numbers.

Sending pictures with links

Notes on pictures

When you insert a picture from the clipboard, you cannot choose whether to embed a picture or insert a hyperlink. This depends on the content and the format of the pictures copied to the clipboard. You should therefore check the content after you have inserted it by clicking the Upload picture button. If a link references a picture on your local hard drive, you can correct it.

If the hyperlink references a picture on your local hard drive, the picture is adopted in the text and an internal link is created in the CAS genesisWorld data record. A hyperlink to your local hard drive may begin, for example, as follows: ///C:\

A hyperlink referring to a drive mapping is treated like an internet hyperlink and, as a result, the picture is not embedded. So for example, a hyperlink could point to a network drive: V:\\Common folder\picture\... The respective picture can then only be viewed by your colleagues, but not by other recipients of the e-mail.

If you insert text or pictures taken from HTML-pages via the clipboard, hyperlinks of these pictures usually refer to the internet. These hyperlinks remain unchanged as only hyperlinks to the local hard drive are deleted and their corresponding pictures embedded.
