Users are also allowed to make settings in the Desktop Client that apply to CAS genesisWorld Web. Some of these settings require specific rights.
Initial settings by administrators
If new users do not work with the Desktop Client, administrators can make initial settings for these users in the Desktop Client settings.
- Set up the user account for the new user in the Management Console.
- Log on to your Desktop Client with the new user account and define the settings and defaults.
- Then contact the user and inform them about the setup of the new user account and transmit them the credentials.
Application Server
The settings for the timeout are directly made on the Application Server, and the Application Server is also entered here to directly open the pages of CAS genesisWorld Web.
Setting the time period for the automatic log off
You can define a timeout for sessions for each application server. After a specified time, at least 5 minutes, an inactive user is automatically logged off.
- Open the smartdesign_config.properties file in the application server folder in ..\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\CAS-Software\Server\JavaServices\configuration.
- Define the duration in the first row and activate the function in the second row.
Without these two rows, the session will not be logged automatically.
de.cas.gw.smartdesign.server.sessionTimeOut=10
de.cas.gw.smartdesign.server.closeIdleSessions=true

Management Console, Server Manager and Desktop Client
The following sections describe in which program, and if necessary with which rights, the defaults and settings that can be made.
Windows authentication
The logon to CAS genesisWorld can be made with the Windows authentication or with the user name and a password for CAS genesisWorld.
User name and password of CAS genesisWorld apply to all CAS genesisWorld programs which are either installed on a user's computer or which a user can access with the corresponding rights.
Browser extensions
The CAS Smart Add-on allows users to automatically open and edit document data records with archive files and enables telephony connection.
If the add-on has been installed, an additional toolbar or tab is inserted into Microsoft Word. Using the options now available in Microsoft Word users can insert mail merge fields and create form letters.
The add-on for the integration into Microsoft Word is required to be able to transfer data from CAS genesisWorld to Microsoft Word documents.
For users to be able to install these integrations, they need the necessary permissions as Windows users.
E-mail accounts
Individual user e-mail accounts are created by your administrator in the Management Console. If a user has the necessary rights, then he/she can create or change e-mail accounts themselves in the Desktop Client.
In CAS genesisWorld Web, users use the e-mail accounts which are created for them.
Navigator and list views
In CAS genesisWorld Web the list views from the Desktop Client are adopted. In the process, the Start navigator and one other navigator are included.
These views, which are adopted from the Desktop Client, are loaded when starting CAS genesisWorld Web. Changes to the Desktop Client are applied when restarting CAS genesisWorld Web.
If users have either no rights to navigators or do not deploy the Desktop Client, you as administrator define all defaults for navigators.
- Define business units in the Management Console.
- You can create public navigators, navigators for business units and link navigators in the Desktop Client or they can be created by others.
Link navigators define which data record types are displayed in dossiers. These settings also apply to CAS genesisWorld Web.
A document template navigator is not required for CAS genesisWorld Web. When creating a document, all document templates to which the required rights exist are displayed.
- Define the start navigators and link navigators for users of CAS genesisWorld Web.
If users have the corresponding rights and work with the Desktop Client, users can define a personal navigator in the program window and the start navigator in the Settings window. Additionally, these users can create app-specific views in CAS genesisWorld Web which only apply to CAS genesisWorld Web and the mobile apps.
View formats
Rights can also be assigned for view formats. View formats for list views in the Desktop Client can only be edited if the respective rights for navigators exist.
If users have either no rights for navigators and view formats or do not work with the Desktop Client, you as administrator create matching view formats.
- A specific view format can be created for a navigator list view.
- You can create a default view format for each data record type. This view format is used if no other view format has been selected for a list.
- Rights for view formats are defined in the Management Console. View formats and defaults for the default view format can also be defined in the Management Console.
- If users have the respective rights and work with the Desktop Client, users create the view formats for list views or default view formats in the Settings window.
- If users have rights to navigators, they can define the displayed columns for individual views in CAS genesisWorld Web. The sort order can only be changed in the Desktop Client. Changes to the displayed CAS genesisWorld Web columns are not transferred to the Desktop Client.
Settings for the address check
You can configure which fields should be checked during the address check and which predefined-field values should be displayed.
An address check with the Unternehmensverzeichnis.org directory in CAS genesisWorld Web is not possible.
- Your administrator configures the address check settings in the Management Console.
The defaults can be viewed by users in the Desktop Client and changed with the corresponding rights.
Country (default) and default address
- The administrator defines defaults for the Country (default) and the Default address in the Management Console.
Users can change the default for the Country (default) only in the Desktop Client.
Each of these defaults can be overwritten in single addresses.
Field variables for letters, form letters and e-mail campaigns
Field variables are variable elements which occur in letters, form letters or e-mail campaigns. Variable elements can be, for example, the name of a graphic file and a signature, an e-mail address or a telephone number. Public field variables can be created by the administrator in the Desktop Client and are available for all users. Private field variables can be only be created by users in the Desktop Client.
You have the following options for field variables.
- If you leave the password of a new CAS genesisWorld user empty at the beginning, you can define settings for this user account in the Desktop Client. This can be a good option especially for new users in the Desktop Client.
- Alternatively, you can only enter public field variables with any user account and use these in Microsoft Word document templates for letters and form letters.
- You can also use Microsoft Word document templates for letters and form letters without field variables.
Please note that users can enter field variables in letters, form letters and e-mail campaigns. Matching document templates and templates for e-mail campaigns, non-existent or empty field variables may prevent this from happening.
Settings for the Desktop Client search
In the Desktop Client, searchable fields can be defined by each user in
Settings on the
Search tab. If no individual fields are defined, then your administrator's settings or the supplied defaults are used.
The fields which have been selected for searching are included in the App search in CAS genesisWorld Web. With SmartSearch, these settings are not taken into consideration.
Settings for the SmartSearch
Settings can be made for the SmartSearch in the Management Console and in the Server Manager.
