Searching and filtering
CAS genesisWorld offers you several options to find one or more records. Basically, there are two options you can choose from: searching using search terms, or using filter settings.
Using search terms
Enter certain search terms which are then searched for in the respective fields of the data records.

Search in the Search window
This is how you open the Search window.
- In the Search menu, click Global search, or
click the corresponding icon, or
- press the F 3 key. You can change this shortcut key combination on the Search tab in the Settings window.
- In the Search window, you search specific data of a data record type, for example, addresses, tasks or all data record types.
- Or you enter filter conditions for a search.

Filtering lists
All lists have a filter field which you can use to apply filters in all list views including multilists. Other views also have a filter function. As soon as you enter the first character the filter starts filtering the data records that are shown.
- In the Filter by drop-down list you can select the field you want to sort the list by.
The drop-down list shows the fields that contain text and which are shown in the list.
- If you want to add a particular field to the list, right-click on the column header row.
- Select Add column and then the desired field. Fields with dates or numbers (e.g. Status) are not included in the filter.
For advanced users:
the field must set to the varchar data type.
- You can now select this newly added field from the Filter by drop-down list.
This is a quick alternative if you do not wish to change the format of the list view.
- In every dossier, you can filter for the subject. A dossier can contain data records of different data record types with varying fields, thus, the Subject setting cannot be changed.
In the drop-down list click this icon to display the whole list again.
How do I find the Automatics address quickly?
Search field in the toolbar
Use the search field in the toolbar for quick and easy searching. If you enter the same word again, the search item is automatically completed by the program.
- You can select the data record type you wish to search in the drop-down list to the left of the search field.
If nothing is selected from the drop-down list, then addresses are selected by default.
Alternatively, you can enter parameters to search for specific data record types.
- Enter one or more search terms in the search field. The global search settings apply for the selected data record type.
- Start the search by pressing the Enter key.
- If SmartSearch is active, then any hits are displayed as soon as just 2 characters have been entered.
To view your most recent searches, click the icon on the right of the search field.
- The Search window opens showing a list of results. More settings are possible in the window or, you also use the filter here via the list to restrict the results.
- If you use the search field again, then the search uses the last-selected data record type for the search.
The last-selected data record type is returns to addresses if you press the Backspace button twice in an empty search field.
How do I find search terms in multiple data record types or in document data record archive files?
Searching in the toolbar using the SmartSearch function
If your administrator has enabled SmartSearch, then SmartSearch will be available through the search field on the toolbar.
- If after entering the search hit you press the enter button, depending on your settings either the Search window will open or the first search hit.
Use filter
A filter consists of conditions which define a subset of all CAS genesisWorld data. You can create simple and complex conditions as well as forming a simple and complex interplay of conditions.

Advanced search in the Search window
In the Advanced search tab you enter the filter conditions for a search. The data that matches the filter conditions is searched.
The program searches in data you have defined for Search in.
A view is always to show the right addresses for the information letter of a company.

If you want a ready-to-use set of search criteria create a search view.
How do you find addresses from a certain postal code area which are also linked to an opportunity and for which incomplete tasks do exist?
Link search
With the link search, you search for data records which are linked with certain data records.
This function is only available in the Premium Edition.
Go to the Link search tab and enter filter conditions for certain data records. Define for which links of the respective data records you want to search that match the filter criteria.
The week view is to display all tasks that are to be done today.

The search in CAS genesisWorld is based on a full-text index. This is defined by the administrator. You can, however, also search with or without full-text index.
Individual searches require more and more detailed entries and offer, depending on what you enter, often more detailed results.
